1. Notices:
Membership forms for IMHAANZ tabled.
IMHAANZ newsletters for those not receiving them via email made available.

2. Bianca to follow through on following points of discussion from the meeting at the national meeting of IMHAANZ she is to attend in the next fortnight:

Where does the new govt sit with IMH? We understand Tania Wilson and Colin Hamlin are looking at IMH configuration of services, and Pat Tuohy along with Amanda De Silva, from Min of Health are doing the same – they plan to collaborate on this planning – Is there a way of keeping up with developments here? Or feeding into them?
Given current economic climate any new developments will have to be funded from existing budgets – Ministers continue to develop relationships with ministry advisers
CAMH services are currently funded to service 0-17 year olds – correction by Colin Hamlin: 0-19 year olds – however a significant cultural shift and development of expertise is required for CAMHS to accept referrals for under 4-5 year olds
Need to continue promotion of need and importance of attention to IMH

3. Updates from across the region
NZ Paed Update at Starship – Denise Guy and Pat Tuohy

Goodfellow symposium – CMDHB sponsoring vulnerable families workstream

ADHB – aim to have consistent message to prevent shaken baby syndrome – across all well child providers. Starship Foundation has committed to fund production of video on this topic

CMDHB – at script writing stage for “getting to know you” dvd, aiming for an April release. As dissemination is costly admin wise, distribution planning still happening – most likely to be sold to other areas at break even cost. Within Counties some feel there is a need to accompany distribution with facilitation and ideas other than including a copy in bounty pack, to date, include birthing unit to showing dvd on continuous loop; well child providers to use on post natal visits…0800 number could be added for parents needing support. Watch this space.Other concerns discussed included effect of such a video on mother if her newborn has recognized or evolving disability

CMDHB has extensive footage that may be used for production of further dvds, eg settling crying babies, dads, te reo, ….

Circle of Security – training end May beginning of June – being hosted by Anglican Women’s Trust, (AWT) Otahuhu – see website or contact Michelle Ball for details. Please promote to plunket and midwife networks.

Manukau Family Start are interested in Mellow Parenting courses being currently offered in Counties. AWT and Ohomairangi have course running term 1 this year.

Peace Foundation are piloting Roots of Empathy – exploring training social workers in schools to facilitate this programme in schools as a way of ensuring sustainability (AWT)

Ohomairangi Trust have started the first group of Hoki ki te Rito – parenting course, (based on Mellow Parenting) and are taking referrals for a second to start later this term. This is a one day per week, 14 week, programme integrating self awareness and self development, structured play activities for parent and child, a parenting component, and video pre and post measures of parent child interactions over mealtime (filmed in the home). Transport, childcare and kai are provided.

Break – fantastic morning tea!
